Serving as a big fillip to the implementation of the R455.60 crore Worli-Sewri Connector project, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has decided to generate public opinion on this soon.
The MMRDA Commissioner UPS Madan stated, “Though we are yet to shortlist any specific date, we’ll be organising a public hearing to seek suggestions and objections from the residents.”
Meanwhile, the MMRDA would carry out feasibility study and impact of the project on the air pollution and traffic situation in the area, and submit its report to the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA).
The MCZMA officials are believed to have suggested that the elevated corridor should have multiple entry and exit points. In this context, they had asked the MMRDA to carry out the survey and submit the report.
“We will be doing our study on the project’s impact on air pollution in Worli, but changing the road’s alignment is impossible because it is already passing through a congested area,” said an MMRDA official.
The proposed elevated corridor has been mooted to provide better connectivity between harbour and western suburbs. Besides this, it would also act as a conduit to connect Bandra-Worli Sea Link (BWSL) and the proposed Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), connecting Sewri with Nhava Sheva.
