Young lass molested, stripped in Mumbai

The minor altercation between thebelligerent auto auto-rickshaw driver and the girl turns nasty
An eighteen year old girl was molested and stripped in Kandivali suburb of the city by an auto-rickshaw driver and his four accomplices in broad daylight in the late afternoon on Tuesday.
The altercation between the girl and an auto-driver over the fare was supposed to be behind this.FIR has been lodged by the Kandivali police against the four persons. The police say that the girl was attacked and chased down the street by a group of men who overpowered her and tore her clothes.
When the girl tried to flee from the spot, the men followed her and continued to harass her. The police also said when she tried to get into anther auto-rickshaw, the men dragged her out.Mumbai remains no longer safe for women, given the cases of crime against them on the streets, public transports and other places registering an increase since past one decade.
According to a senior scribe of the city, HarigovindVishwakarma, the upsurge in women related crime has something to do with their less visibility at public places, offices, local stations and streets. ‘Women constitute roughly around 50% of the total population of the country and their visibility is not more than 10-12%.’
In the West, their high visibility outside their homes prevents such incidents to occur and even if these occur their occurrence is much less than in India, believes the scribe.
