Today, March 8, is known as the International Women’s Day. A day to celebrate women, a day to acknowledge them. However, is only a day dedicated to them enough? With the last few months covering the atrocities made on women, some of them even celebrities, facing issues such as sexual harassment, being paid less than men, it seems only but hypocritical to post inspirational posts on social media about how women are ‘valued’ or ‘appreciated,’ when the reality depicts otherwise.
However, on this day, if all of us decide to make the world a better place, by just being supportive of each other, empathetic towards each other and importantly understanding each other, would be capturing the actual essence of Women’s day.
Women are an essential part to achieve an ideal world. A society with empowered women is more developed and peaceful than the society with male chauvinistic perceptions. Women have for long been viewed as fragile and weak creatures while the reality remains that women indeed are very strong both mentally and physically and can endure and nurture, a woman can be whoever she wants to be. She can be a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a homemaker while also achieving her goals and contributing to the society as well.
There is a famous saying, that behind every successful man there is a woman, and this is true in many instances of a person’s life because a person can only grow with the support of the women such as their mothers, wives and sisters.
Today women are reaching new heights in various fields from being a homemaker to running a country and they should be lauded for their various roles in life and society. Appreciate all the women in the world because as Beyoncé proclaims, “Who Run The World? Girls!!!”
