Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distanced itself from Kannada film actress Ragini Dwivedi who has been arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for possession of drugs. BJP spokesperson Ganesh Karnik said that the party disowned Ragini Dwivedi and clarified that she was one of the several celebrities who campaigned for the party during elections voluntarily.

Karnik further said that Ragini wasn’t a BJP member nor was assigned any role in the party. The BJP will not be accountable for her misdeeds done in her personal capacity. He said that the BJP has always been against any sort of anti-social activity and will continue to be so. State BJP media joint convenor B.N. Raghavendra and convenor A. H. Anand endorsed Karnik's statement.

Earlier this year Ragini was on the same platform with Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa at a programme aimed at fighting coronavirus. She took part in a rally with Yediyurappa along with other celebrities and senior officials. Wearing a blue sportswear she was seen right behind the Chief Minister.

Ragini also shared stage with politicians from different parties during the launch of packaged drinking water at Rs.9.90 litre on July 31. She has also campaigned for plasma donation to treat coronavirus.

CCB had last week raided her residence in Bangalore and cigarettes with ganja were recovered during the raid. The CCB filed an FIR against Ragini in the city police station and she was booked under the Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Services Act.

Ragini has acted in acclaimed films such as Veera Madakari, Kempe Gowda, Ragini IPS, Bangari and Shiva.
