National Students Union of India (NSUI) members have begun an indefinite hunger strike demanding postponement of NEET-JEE and fee waiver for six months due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Neeraj Kundan, President of NSUI and President of the Delhi wing of the students’ body commenced the hunger strike along with eight other members.

They are contending that universities shouldn’t hold exams during the pandemic. The NSUI had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking postponement of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and promoting final year students on the basis of past performance.

Congress leaders have called for deferment of all-India medical and engineer entrance examinations. Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has also appealed to the union government to consider the requests and postpone the medical and engineering entrance examinations
