Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer have been awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics for "combating poverty," the Swedish academy announced today. Abhijit Banerjee, a native of India, is an American citizen. He is a Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US while Esther Duflo is a French American citizen. Michael Kremer also comes from the United States.
Esther Duflo, 47, was born in Paris and is currently a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Michael Kremer, 55, is a professor at Harvard University and has a PhD from the university.
