Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis handed over his resignation to Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at a quick meeting on Friday evening, 15 days after the united Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena won a strong majority in the state elections last month. Nevertheless, after a tense tussle with his coalition partner led by Uddhav Thackeray, Fadnavis, the presumptive chief minister of the BJP for the second term, Sena demanded written assurance that a Sena candidate would have the opportunity to become chief minister after 30 months. Upon handing over the formal letter to the president, he appeared before television cameras to announce his resignation. Fadnavis started by thanking his party and its members for the opportunity to serve the Maharashtra people.
