On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at the Congress party for taking a stand against the Citizenship Amendment Bill passed on Wednesday at the Rajya Sabha. Addressing a poll rally in Jharkhand, PM Modi said, "Congress in the past had promised relief to oppressed minority refugees, but never did anything for them. They received similar treatment from Congress governments in the situation in which they lived in Pakistan." On the issue of protests about the Citizenship Amendment Bill taking place in the northeast, PM Modi said, "I assure every state in the east and northeast, the traditions, culture, language etc of Assam and other states will not be affected at all. The central government will work with the state government for your development. Don't be misled by Congress's statements."
