The Gujarat High Court has acquitted former minister and BJP leader Maya Kodnani in connection with the 2002 Naroda Patiya massacre case while uphelding the conviction of another accused Babu Bajrangi.

The Naroda Patiya case is related to the mass massacre of 97 people during the Gujarat riots in 2002.

Earlier in 2012 in August, a special court had punished Maya Kodnani and 31 others. Kodnani was awarded a 28-year jail term, but Kodnani came out on bail two years later in 2014.

BJP President Amit Shah was testified in the special court where he clearly favoured Kodnani in connection with the Naroda Patiya case.
