Kochi: More than 350 flats in Kochi-which housed 240 families-will be razed to the ground from today as the government of Kerala is expected to conduct one of India's biggest demolition drives involving residential complexes. The groundbreaking exercise comes four months after the Supreme Court ordered the demolition of four residential buildings in the city's posh lakeside location over coastal regulatory violations. Massive arrangements have been made for the two-day demolition that starts at 11 a.m. when the first building is razed to the ground within seconds, followed by the second demolition in a gap in 5 min. Tomorrow the two further buildings will be demolished. Large gatherings in the evacuation zone of all the water front apartment complexes to be demolished in the Maradu area of Kochi have been banned until 4 pm, police said.
