New Delhi: Lieutenant General Manoj Mukund Naravane will take over as the 28th Chief of Indian Army. He will succeed General Bipin Rawat, whose three-year term ends on Tuesday as chief of the army. Until assuming the duties of the Army Staff Vice Chief in September 2019, Lt General Naravane led the Army's Eastern Command, which guards India's nearly 4,000-km border with China. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy, commissioned in the 7th Battalion, The Sikh Light Infantry Regiment in June 1980.
