President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Modi mourn the death of singer SP Balasubrahmanyam

President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi have expressed condolences for the death of legendary singer and Padma awardee S.P. Balasubrahmanyam. The noted singer aged 74 passed away today.

President tweeted: “Indian music has lost one of its most melodious voices…Condolences to his family, friends and admirers.” Prime Minister wrote: “His melodious voice…enthralled audiences for decades…my thoughts are with his family and admirers.”

S.P. Balasubrahmanyam was one of India’s greatest playback singers. He won six national film awards for best male playback singer in four Indian languages including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi. He is a recipient of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. Balasubrahmanyam is married to Savithri and has two children, a daughter Pallavi and a son S. P. B. Charan, also a playback singer and film producer.
