Patna: A recent meeting between former Union Minister and former Janata Dal (United) president RCP Singh and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has fuelled speculation over possible political realignments ahead of key developments in Bihar.

While the meeting itself fuelled discussions about a possible political reconciliation, the Janata Dal (United) leadership has responded with sharp criticism of RCP Singh.

JD-U spokesperson Neeraj Kumar launched a strong attack on RCP Singh, remarking that after “wandering from place to place”, he had finally returned to the political doorstep that had originally shaped his career.

According to Neeraj Kumar, RCP Singh appeared to be seeking forgiveness from Nitish Kumar. He said that RCP Singh had made mistakes, changed political camps repeatedly, and ultimately realised that his political future remained linked to the leadership of Nitish Kumar. However, he emphasised that any decision regarding RCP Singh’s return to the party would be taken solely by the JD-U leadership.

Neeraj Kumar also downplayed the meeting’s political significance. He noted that Nitish Kumar regularly meets members of the public and party workers during his morning interactions. Since the meeting took place around 8 am, he suggested that it should not automatically be interpreted as a sign of political rehabilitation.

He further remarked that there was irony in the situation because RCP Singh once controlled access to Nitish Kumar and arranged meetings for others, whereas he now had to wait for an opportunity to meet the former Chief Minister himself.

The JD-U spokesperson accused RCP Singh of weakening the party during his exit from the organisation. He stated that despite political setbacks, the party survived because of Nitish Kumar’s leadership and values.

Neeraj Kumar also recalled previous statements made by RCP Singh, including remarks questioning Nitish Kumar’s political relevance and describing him as history. By highlighting these past comments, the JD-U attempted to underline the importance of loyalty and trust in politics.

RCP Singh was once among Nitish Kumar’s closest associates. He served as the Chief Minister’s principal secretary, later entered politics, became JD-U national president, and served as a Rajya Sabha member and Union minister. However, differences emerged between the two leaders, eventually leading to his departure from the JD-U.

After leaving the party, RCP Singh joined the BJP and later associated himself with Jan Suraaj. His recent meeting with Nitish Kumar has therefore generated widespread speculation about a possible political comeback.
