BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar, accused of raping a 16-year-old in the Unnao district in Uttar Pradesh has been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The arrest came soon after the Allahabad High Court ordered the CBI to arrest the lawmaker at the earliest.
The court's order to arrest the lawmaker comes hours after the probe agency had taken Sengar into custody for more questioning while the court also reprimanded the BJP government in UP for delaying the arrest formalities.
Chief Justice Dileep Baba Saheb Bhosle said that the government's intent to delay arrest despite registering FIR by the police will have far reaching consequences and a menace to the country's democracy.
