New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) removed spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya after videos allegedly showed him eating a burger during the Parliament march protest, triggering a political controversy amid allegations of police brutality.

In a post on its official X handle, the CJP said Dahiya was being “relieved of all his official duties.”

“We strongly condemn the deeply insensitive actions of our spokesperson Vijeta Dahiya, whose videos surfaced while peaceful protestors and our team were facing brutal police violence. Such conduct is unacceptable, shows a complete lack of judgment, and is wholly inconsistent with the values and principles of our movement,” the Abhijeet Dipke‑led outfit said.

It added: “In response, we are removing Vijeta Dahiya as spokesperson of the Cockroach Janta Party and relieving him of all the official duties.”

Dahiya faced criticism online after several clips allegedly showed him eating a burger while protesters, mostly youngsters and students, marched towards Parliament and bore the brunt of police action.

In response to his termination, Dahiya posted a video on Tuesday insisting he was not answerable to anyone. He said: “Why did I eat a burger? This is a big issue today. So, why does any human eat a burger? Either they are hungry, or they feel like eating a burger. That’s it.”

The former CJP member asserted that he did not want to get into politics to “appease fools.” He remarked: “Anyways, you guys hold me so accountable… I mean, is being a protester a job? Did you elect me to this position? Go hold the government accountable! So this nonsense thinking of yours… I don’t want to get caught up in this; I don’t want to get into politics just to appease fools like you.”

“Whatever I am doing, I am doing it for the country, doing it by my own choice, and I am not accountable to anyone. And I will eat a burger,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police came under fire after scores of students and youngsters were lathi‑charged and tear‑gassed during the CJP’s march to Parliament on Monday. The CJP said several people were badly injured and left bleeding after the action by police forces.

The Delhi Police, however, accused the protesters of displaying “unruly, aggressive and violent behaviour.”
