Rahul Gandhi Says Bihar Election Result is Surprising, Will Continue Intense Fight For the Constitution

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, a Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, spoke out regarding the Bihar fiasco on Friday, calling the NDA’s landslide victory of more than 200 seats “truly surprising” and saying that the poll “was not fair from the start”.

LoP Rahul Gandhi thanked millions of “Mahagathbandhan” voters in a post on X, but he also hinted at a more direct conflict with the ruling party over democratic institutions.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the millions of voters in Bihar who placed their faith in Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance),” he wrote.

“This result in Bihar is truly surprising. We failed to win an election that was not fair from the start. This fight is to protect the Constitution and democracy. The Congress Party and the INDIA Alliance will deeply review this result and intensify their efforts to protect democracy.”

The comment was made following the Congress’s humiliating 5-6 from 61 contested seats and the Mahagathbandhan’s devastation to less than 40 seats.

LoP Rahul Gandhi did not specifically name the Prime Minister, Home Minister, or Election Commission, but his words echoed party colleague Jairam Ramesh’s previous accusation of “vote chori on a gigantic scale.”

According to Congress insiders, LoP Rahul Gandhi instructed a “forensic audit” of voter deletions, booth-level inconsistencies, and EVM movement logs at a virtual meeting with Bihar in-charges late at night.
The EC refuted party members’ claims that over 18 lakh names—mostly from Muslim, Dalit, and EBC pockets—were removed during the special summary revision, citing “standard cleansing of 14.7 lakh duplicates and 3.2 lakh deceased.”

Reactions were measured within the INDIA Bloc. While praising LoP Rahul Gandhi’s “moral clarity”, Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD, whose party fell from 75 to 31 seats, called for an emphasis on “organisational collapse” rather than just institutional sabotage.

Citing CCTV blackouts in 127 strong rooms, Dipankar Bhattacharya of the CPI(ML) Liberation supported the “unfair election” argument.
The BJP launched an immediate attack. Amit Shah shared a video of female voters praising Nitish Kumar’s welfare initiatives, while spokesperson Sambit Patra referred to it as “the whining of a prince who lost his toy kingdom.”

“Bihar’s daughters rejected the dynasty. Rahul ji should introspect instead of insulting their verdict,” Patra wrote.

LoP Rahul Gandhi’s promise to “intensify” the constitutional dispute alludes to nationwide demonstrations, legal challenges to the EC’s revision process, and a revived Bharat Jodo leg centred on electoral integrity as Congress prepares for municipal elections in Delhi and Rajasthan.
