Berlin, Dec 22: German police have launched a man hunt to look for a Tunisian asylum seeker highly suspected to be the driver who rammed a truck inside the Christmas market in Berlin yesterday. While the police had made initial arrests the suspects were let off as the police had caught the wrong man. 

The police have launched the search based on a document they found inside the truck which revealed a name, Anis .A. Ralf Jaegar interior minister of the Western state of North Rhine Westphalia said the man appeared to have arrived in Germany in July 2015 but his asylum application had been rejected. 

The security officials are guessing that the suspect had been using several different names and was staying in Berlin since February this year. He was on the watch list of the security agencies for keeping in touch with ISIS. Though he should have been deported back to Tunisia once his asylum request was denied it did not happen since some of his documents were missing. 

Since 2000 Christmas markets have been the main targets of terror groups and the Berlin truck attack has been the deadliest attack in Germany since 1980 with the death toll going up to 12 and scores more injured. Security Forces are now going to increase CCTV coverage across the main city centres along with undertaking searches in the refugee settlements across Western Germany.
