Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee met with party leaders from the opposition.
After backing Congress MP Abhiskek Manu Singhvi’s Rajya Sabha election from West Bengal, Banerjee seems keen that all opposition parties including Congress should do business together to defeat the BJP.
She asserted, “Whichever party is strong in a state should fight BJP there, one-to-one fight, others should support those parties in their strongholds. It should be one fight.”
Mamata Banerjee elaborated, “Mayawatiji and Akhileshji are strong leaders in UP and if they come together none else can do anything. I would want Mayawatiji and Akhileshji to invite us to Lucknow and we will all go there on condition that they offer us a cup of tea.”
She added, “All of us are of the view that we should work together. This government has been discredited. Whether one agrees with it or not, the message about demonetisation, GST and bank fraud has gone down to the people, just as whether one agreed at that time or not the message about PM Indira Gandhi’s garibi hatao, nasbandi and Emergency had all gone down to the people.”
