ICC Forms Committee to Resolve Asia Cup 2025 Trophy Dispute Between India and Pakistan

Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly formed a special committee to address the Asia Cup 2025 trophy dispute between India and Pakistan. The decision comes after the BCCI raised concerns during the ICC Board meeting, prompting the global cricket body to step in and mediate the ongoing conflict between the two nations.

According to Telecom Asia Sport’s report, the ICC Board decided at its meeting on Friday that Oman Cricket Board chairman Pankaj Khimji, who is thought to be close to both boards and has mediated on multiple occasions, will lead the committee while both India and Pakistan maintain their respective positions on the Asia Cup.

After winning, captain Suryakumar Yadav declined to accept the trophy from Pakistan cricket chief Mohsin Naqvi, and the trophy was not given to India. Attending the meeting on Friday, Naqvi insisted that, in his capacity as President of the Asia Cricket Council (ACC), only he could present the trophy.

India won the Asia Cup after defeating Pakistan by five wickets in the final. However, because Naqvi supported terrorism in India while serving as Pakistan’s interior minister, the Indian team declined to collect the trophy from him. To the dismay of the PCB and ACC presidents, Suryakumar mockingly held the trophy after refusing to accept it from Naqvi. He then brought it to his waiting players, who rejoiced as though they had won it.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rejected Naqvi’s offer to accept the trophy at an event in Dubai on November 10 and brought up the matter outside of the ICC conference.

According to sources, the ICC Board emphasised that both India and Pakistan are significant players in the cricket world and that their problems must be resolved for the good of the game. The meeting was conducted in a friendly manner.

“There was no bitterness during the talks on the sidelines of the ICC meeting, and boards like Australia, England, and South Africa tried to appease both the warring parties. They also agreed to form a three-member committee to solve the trophy issues,” sources told www.telecomasia.net.

According to sources, Naqvi attended the meeting mostly because he was reassured that it would be conducted amicably.

Only early on Friday was Naqvi’s visit to Dubai confirmed following the postponement of a crucial Senate hearing. A significant constitutional amendment was scheduled to be approved by the Senate.
