New Delhi, Dec 9: Income Tax officials have discovered currency worth Rs 100 crores in 44 suspect accounts in the Chandini Chowk bank brink of Axis Bank. The accounts were not following the mandatory KYC norms.
Several bank officials have been questioned in this regard after surprise IT raids busted the racket at the bank branch. Earlier in the weel Enforcement Directorate had arrested two Axis bank managers and seized 3 kg worth of gold bars in connection with its wide spread money laundering racket to convert old notes with help from bank branches.
The agency arrested the two managers under the provisions of PMLA and has registered a criminal complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering act in the present case as well. Money was being transferred through RTGS transfers to small shell companies including a case where the Director of one such firm was found to be a daily wager.
On Thursday a person acquainted with accounting practises was sent to a week long ED custody by the Delhi court in connection with the ongoing investigation.
