Pune, Dec 15: In one of the first of its kind of case, an It raid conducted on one bank branch in Pune revealed Rs 10 crore worth of currency in new notes, one of the biggest raid finds till date. The officials discovered huge amounts of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 notes hidden inside lockers held by an American oil field equipment supplier at the state owned Bank of Maharastra’s Parvati branch. 

The counting of the cash started on Wednesday afternoon and now the officials have sealed all the 15 lockers at the branch. It was the very frequent usage of lockers by individuals caught on CCTV footage which made the officials suspicious and they decided to conduct the raids on all the lockers held by a single company. 

The IT official at the site stated that this was one of the biggest catch so far in recovering new currency notes. Though ban officials are being ruled out of suspicion for now, the official maintained that investigations will continue and all branches will now be raided to confirm that no more currency is hidden.

Bank officials confirmed the reports of the raid and said that the company was an old current account holder at the bank but that the bank had no idea of the stashed currency. The bank further added that the account holder was permitted only Rs 50,000 withdrawal twice from its account since November 10 according to the RBI rules set after demonitisation.
