Tokyo shares ended the morning session higher on Thursday on the yen's retreat against the US dollars.

 
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 265.92 points, or 1.62 percent, higher from Wednesday to 16,682.11, Xinhua news agency reported.
 
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 17.66 points, or 1.32 percent, at 1,356.63.
