Ajit Pawar’s Death in Air Crash: Flag at Half Mast, State Mourning in Maharashtra

Mumbai: The Government of Maharashtra declared three days of state mourning as a mark of respect to the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar, who passed away in a plane crash at Baramati on Wednesday.

The National Flag at Maharashtra Lok Bhavan was lowered to half-mast.

Governor Acharya Devvrat, joined by the staff and officers of Maharashtra Lok Bhavan, observed a 2-minute silence and paid homage to the departed dignitary.

Officers and staff of Lok Bhavan, along with police personnel posted there, were also present on the occasion.

In a condolence message, the Governor said:

“I was deeply saddened by the untimely demise of the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Ajit Pawar ji in a plane crash near Baramati.  I pay my respects to Shri Ajit Pawar Ji and convey my heartfelt condolences to all the members of the bereaved family. Om Shanti.”

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist Congress Party leader Ajit Pawar died on Wednesday when the chartered aircraft he was travelling in crashed near Baramati Airport while attempting to land. He and four others on board were killed in the accident.

His last rites were held on Thursday with full state honours in Baramati. The ceremony took place at the Vidya Pratishthan ground, with senior political leaders, thousands of supporters, and his family in attendance. His sons lit the funeral pyre, and mourners chanted tributes such as “Ajit Dada amar rahe” (Long live Ajit Dada).
