Karnataka Flood   40 dead

The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Center (KSNDMC) reported that 40 individuals have lost their life while 14 have been missing since August 1 owing to floods in the state.

Since 1 August 2019, 40 individuals have lost their life, 14 missing persons, 5,81,702 evacuated persons, 1168 active aid camps and 17 districts and 2028 affected villages, the KSNDMC said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday conducted an aerial survey of Karnataka flood-affected regions. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa briefed Shah on the state and district of Belgaum's rescue and relief activities.

Yediyurappa announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the deceased's next kin on Saturday. Meanwhile, until August 15, all colleges and schools — government and private — will stay closed in affected flood-hit districts.
