Restrictions were eased and over 50,000 landline phone links were restored in areas of the Kashmir Valley, approximately two weeks after severe limitations were imposed in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the government's large move to end the state's unique status. For the time being, the prohibitory orders, banning large gatherings, were relaxed in parts of the valley. However, heavy security remains in place.
