Mexico: Mexico witnessed an exciting start to the FIFA World Cup 2026 as South Korea opened its campaign with a victory, defeating Czechia 2-1 in a thrilling encounter. South Korea staged a remarkable comeback after trailing 1-0 in the second half to secure all three points.
South Korea had an early opportunity to take the lead in the ninth minute when they were awarded a free kick, but Czechia’s defence stood firm to deny them. Two minutes later, the Koreans also failed to capitalise on a corner kick.
Throughout the first half, South Korea applied sustained pressure on the Czech defence but was unable to find a breakthrough. As a result, both teams went into the halftime break locked in a goalless draw.
However, Czechia came out with greater attacking intent after the restart and finally broke the deadlock in the 59th minute. Ladislav Krejčí rose highest to score with a superb header, giving his side a 1-0 lead.
