Dr. Kalyani Sahoo, a principal at Nandalal Ghosh BT College in West Bengal was arrested for a racial rant against a B.Ed. student and slapping Dr. Shanta Moulik, another teacher in the institution for protesting against her act.
Police arrested Dr. Sahoo after students and teachers protested vehemently against her behaviour. Trouble began after a final year student alleged that she was not being given the mark-sheet by the college despite clearing all her dues and producing the receipts.
When she went to Dr. Sahoo’s room with her complaint, the principal mocked her for her caste. Dr. Shanta Moulik, an Assistant Professor working in the college since 25 years backed the student saying there was no ground to withhold her mark sheet. However, an enraged Dr. Kalyani slapped her.
Dr. Moulik in her statement said, “This is not the first time that our principal misbehaved with the girl, who comes from a financially weak background. But despite that she has not kept any college fees pending. But the college is dilly-dallying against issuing her the mark-sheet.”
Dr. Sahoo has refused to make any comments.
