Mumbai: Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan, in a solemn act of remembrance, placed a wreath at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial on the premises of the Mumbai Police Commissioner. This was in honour of the 16th anniversary of the martyrdom of police officers and jawans during the Mumbai terrorist attack on Tuesday (26th Nov).
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar also placed wreaths at the Police Martyrs’ Memorial.
A Police platoon presented the Salami Shastra and played the Bigulars’ Last Post. In a powerful display of unity, all dignitaries, uniformed officers, and family members of martyrs stood together, saluting the police martyrs.

Soon after the salutation ceremony, the Governor met the family members of the police martyrs and senior retired and serving officers present.
Guardian Ministers Deepak Kesarkar and Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, DGP Rashmi Shukla, Dr I S Chahal, Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar, and other senior officials were present, underscoring the importance of the occasion and the collective respect for the police martyrs.
The 2008 Mumbai attacks (also known as the 26/11 attacks) were a series of coordinated terrorist operations that occurred in November 2008. These attacks, which received widespread international condemnation, were carried out by ten Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists who executed 12 shooting and bombing strikes across Mumbai over four days. The attacks began on Wednesday, November 26 and continued until Saturday, November 29, 2008, resulting in a total of 175 deaths, including nine of the assailants, and over 300 injuries.
