Mumbai: The 17th edition of Dr Batra’s Positive Health Awards, held this week at the iconic Tata Theatre, NCPA, in Mumbai, recognised remarkable individuals who have triumphed over illness, disability, and life challenges. The event honoured their resilience, courage, and outstanding contributions to society, highlighting stories of hope and positive change.
Manisha Koirala, an esteemed actor and cancer survivor, presented each winner with a trophy and a cash award of ₹1,00,000. The event was hosted by Dr Akshay Batra, vice chairman & managing director of Dr Batra’s Healthcare, alongside actor Mandira Bedi.
Moreover, the event, supported by Bajaj Auto Limited, attracted a full house of over 1,000 attendees from diverse sectors and regions. The five awardees—Tinkesh Kaushik (a triple amputee who trekked to Mount Everest Base Camp), Amala Pankaj (a spinal injury survivor and social media influencer), Rajinder Kumar (a Paralympic gold medallist), S. Raman (a muscular dystrophy patient and Secretary of Amar Seva Nayak), and People’s Choice award winner Krishna Samania (a Paralympic gold medallist)—were recognised for their remarkable courage and steadfast determination in overcoming life-altering challenges.
The nominations were selected by a jury that included Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto Limited; renowned Padmashri awardee, homoeopath and founder of Dr Batra’s group of companies, Dr Mukesh Batra; former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi; actor Vivek Oberoi and filmmaker R. Balki.
The evening also featured a stirring cultural showcase, including a performance by a visually challenged orchestra, a wheelchair dance presentation, and other artistic displays that embodied inclusion, dignity, and the true spirit of positive health.
Speaking at the event, Dr Mukesh Batra stated, “The best person to give confidence to a suffering patient is not always a doctor, but another patient who has triumphed over the disease. These specially abled warriors have not only overcome their challenges with fortitude, but they have also redefined what it means to contribute to society. They remind us that even in the face of great adversity, we can rise. Strength is not the absence of hardship but the triumph over it.”
Mr Rajiv Bajaj added, “I firmly believe in homoeopathy and have relied on Dr Batra for my family’s medical needs. We have always recognised the healing power of belief and purpose. These awards honour individuals who have not only surmounted immense challenges but have also inspired thousands in the process. It is a privilege to support this meaningful initiative year after year.”
Manisha Koirala expressed her admiration, saying, “I congratulate Dr Batra’s Foundation for establishing these awards. As a cancer survivor, I understand the trauma one endures and what it takes to overcome it. Watching these stories unfold is deeply humbling. Their fearlessness does more than inspire — it expands the boundaries of what we believe is possible. It is an honour to celebrate these individuals, and I pray that their journeys continue to touch countless lives.”
Dr Bu Abdullah, chairman of the Bu Abdullah group of companies, who flew in from Dubai specifically for the occasion, invited Dr Batra to host a similar event in Dubai next year.
