Surat: Maoist leader Kobad Ghandy was detained by the Surat police on Monday after he was brought here in connection with a nine-year-old sedition case brought against him and 24 others for allegedly spreading Naxal activity in southern Gujarat, authorities said. Ghandy, an alleged key member of the banned outfit CPI (Maoist), was brought to Surat from a jail in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, on a transfer warrant, they said."We arrested Ghandy after his production in front of the magistrate. In 2010, the Kamrej police in the Surat district lodged an FIR against 25 people, including Ghandy, for disseminating Naxal activities in the south of Gujarat.The police will seek Ghandy's remand from the court on Tuesday to explore his alleged role in spreading Naxal's operations in southern Gujarat, he said.
