Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Saturday said awareness and lifestyle changes were the keys to prevent cancer.
He was speaking during a conference on cancer organised by the Agra Cancer Society and the Rotary Club of Agra city.
Stating that awareness was the key to prevent cancer, Naik said lifestyle changes were leading to increasing incidents of cancer and triggering health problems.
"Good health leads to good life. People have to be made aware of the close relationship between tobacco and cancer," he added.
Other participating speakers advocated tough measures to contain the use of tobacco which takes 400,000 lives anually.
Sandeep Agarwal, organising secretary of the conference, told IANS that of the 800,000 cancer cases reported every year, half were caused by tobacco addiction. "If not addressed soon, it would become a huge menace."
