Six new AIIMS set up: Nadda

Six new AIIMS have been set up across the country in order to correct the "imbalance" in availability and affordability of tertiary health care, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda told parliament Friday.
The new AIIMS have come up in Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh. In each of these new AIIMS, three batches of MBBS students and two batches of B.Sc. (Nursing) students are receiving education, Nadda told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
The central government is setting up new AIIMS in a phased manner in different states under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) which aims at correcting the imbalances in availability of affordable and reliable tertiary level health care and to augment facilities for quality medical education in the underserved areas, he said.
The health ministry has requested the chief ministers of different states to identify three or four locations for setting up of new AIIMS, and governments of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal have done so, Nadda said.
