Violent scenes sprang across the Bengal during the Panchayat election in the state as two Communist couples were burnt alive by the Trinamool Congress workers  in the South 24 Parganas district.

Bomb blasts were reported in three places while two BJP workers were reportedly manhandled in Tharakeshwar as well.

This Panchayat polls assume large significance as this is the final major poll before the ultimate clash in the next year. Thrinamool Congress has already won in almost 20,000 seats before the polls itself so the election is being held for the remaining seats only.

Election results will be announced on 17 May.
