New Delhi, Dec 16: Taking a note of the recent product launches by Amaxon which gravely hurt Indian sentiments and values, Economic affairs minister Shaktikanta Das warned the e retail gaint that if the flippant attitude continues then Amazon will be doing so at its own risk. The warning comes after Amazon website was offering slippers for sale with Mahatma Gandhi's print on it.
The warning is coming at the heels of Sushma Swaraj's stand on Amazon after it came to Indian authorities notice that the Tricolour was being pronited on doormats and put up for sale in the Canadian markets. The flippant attitude hasnt gone down well with the Indian sensibilities as the two prominent national symbols of the father of the nation along with the flag have been dishonoured by the international retail giant.
While Amazon had offered an apology along with removing the doormats from the website after the Tricolour warning from Swaraj it saw itself in another controversy on Saturday after Gandhi imprinted slippers made way on its website for sale. When asked about the issue Minister Of External affairs Vikas Swaroop added that, the matter is being followed up, and that the Indian Ambassador in Washington has been instructed to convey to Amazon that while 'providing a platform for third party vendors they should respect Indian sensibilities. and sentiments."
Amazon has struck the raw cord with Indian before as well when it was found that it was selling doormats with pictures of Indian Gods and Goddess along with women leggings carrying similar prints on them. It led to the social media in India employing the hashtag #boycottamazon
