Flipkart sees exodus of senior management

Chennai, December 28: Even as the competition in the online retail market intensifies, Flipkart is seeing another kind of emergency brewing up in its management with almost all senior managers leaving one by one.

Right from CFO Sanjay Baweja, CTO Peeyush Ranjan the list is never ending in present days. Mukesh Bansal, Lalit Sarna, Sunil Gopinath, Punit Soni are just some of the other names on the list which continues to add names rapidly within the company resources. For most of them leaving the decision was dominated by reasons of under performance and the internal headwinds towards better prospects as shown by startup tracker, Xeler8.

While other start ups such as Snap deal, Shopclues and Ola see people staying for an average of two years minimum the tenures at Flipkart have not lasted beyond 11 months on an average in the current year. While ZOHO faced the problem of management exodus during its starting year it has now stabilised and even reporting a turnover with people staying for longer durations and working better.  The data collected by the tracker is based on hires and exits over the last five years.

In India decisions are taken keeping the promoter in mind even though there is a requirement of business heads. While investors are wary of promoter based decision making in India there is a long way to go before people will change their outlook in the matter.

Investors are urging start ups to stay in for the longer haul and not look at quick exits after making money and selling their ideas.
