Sindhu drops to 14th spot in BWF rankings

Once a regular in the top-10, India’s P.V. Sindhu dropped two places to be ranked No.14 in women’s singles section in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings released on Thursday.
The two-time World Championship bronze medallist was out of action at the start of the season and hasn’t really found her old form yet. She also lost her first round match at the ongoing Australian Open Superseries on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal retained her place at the top of the rankings for yet another week. The World No.1 progressed to the quarter-finals in Sydney where she will take on old foe Shixian Wang of China on Friday.
In men’s singles, though Kidambi Srikanth maintained his position at No.4, Commonwealth Games champion Parupalli Kashyap and H.S. Prannoy both rose a place to No.12 and No.14, respectively.
Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa made a jump of three places to be ranked at No.18 in women’s doubles.
There is no Indian representation in the top-25 of men’s and mixed doubles.
