Following Barcelona’s European Champions League triumph over Juventus on Saturday, forward Luis Suarez has thanked his club for signing him after what he went through, also appreciating his teammates for treating him so well since he arrived at the Catalan side.
Suarez was heavily criticised as he was involved in a biting incident with Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a match in the FIFA World Cup 2014. Following this, he was banned for four months and handed out eight international matches suspension.
But Barcelona brought him and on Saturday, he reposed the faith in him by striking the second goal for Barcelona in their 3-1 win over Juventus in the final.
"I am thankful to Barcelona for signing me after everything I went through. Also my teammates for their hard work and their sacrifice. They have treated me so well since I arrived and for that I will be grateful for my whole life," Suarez was quoted as saying by goal.com.
"With Messi, with Iniesta and all of the other players who make the difference, it's much easier."
Suarez left Liverpool last summer claiming he wanted to win the Champions League and he has achieved that goal in his first season for Barcelona.
"It's a dream. It's something you think about and now it has become a reality. I came to Barca to win titles and I have, so it has been a great season," the 28-year-old said.
"I said I would be happy with 20 goals and I have scored 25, so it is all positive."
Having won the treble of La Liga, Copa del Rey and Champions League titles this term, Suarez now believes Barcelona can go on to improve next season.
"We have beaten Manchester City, Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, lots of great teams. But in this team you always want to keep growing and we have the players to be able to do that. We want to keep getting better," Suarez concluded.
Suarez thanks Barcelona for standing by him in tough times
