Dr. Bijoy Kutty is a popular cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon in Dombivli East, Mumbai with two decades of experience in his field. Dr. Bijoy Kutty practices at Icon Hospital in Dombivli East, Thane and Platinum Hospital in Mulund West, Mumbai. He did his M.B.B.S. from V.S.S. Medical College in Burla and MS in General Surgery from G.B. Pant Hospital, Moulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi in 1999. He continued his further studies in New Delhi and obtained MCh (cardiac surgery) from the same college in 2003.
After his training in G.B. Pant Hospital in New Delhi, Dr. Kutty joined the prestigious Escorts Heart Institute under the visionary leadership of Padmasree Dr. Naresh Trehan. He worked at the institute in various capacities and attained valuable perfection in beating heart CABG, minimally invasive CABG, mitral valve repair and robotic cardiac surgery. Dr. Kutty worked as Senior Resident, Registrar, Associate Consultant and Consultant in many prestigious institutes, besides performing all the surgeries as one would find in the spectrum of cardiac surgeries including beating heart CABG, Mitral and Aortic valve replacements, ASD closure and vascular procedures. He is an expert in Off Pump CABG, and total arterial revascularization, valve sparing surgery in mitral stenosis, cardiac transplantation and left ventricular assist devices.
Dr. Kutty has a special interest in thoracic surgery especially VATS (video assisted thoracic surgery) and total arterial revascularization, valve sparing surgery in mitral stenosis, cardiac transplantation etc. He is a member of the governing body of Platinum Hospitals and has been recognized as one of the top 3 cardiac surgeons in Mumbai according to an article published by India Today magazine.
Incidentally, Dr. Kutty was in news for performing a bloodless operation of a patient from Malad, Mumbai. The patient was a staunch follower of Jehovah’s Witness, a Christian sect, who refuse blood transfusions. The woman was diagnosed with sever mitral stenosis, a condition where the valve opens narrowly, restricting blood flow. The condition was life threatening as blood flow between the left chambers of the heart was affected and what added to the complication was the patient didn’t want to receive blood. She also refused autologous blood transfusion, a procedure in which the patient’s blood is drawn, preserved and transfused back to her.
Dr. Kutty successfully treated her by putting her on a daily dose of iron tablets and also injecting iron intravenously once in a month. He performed her surgery once the haemoglobin levels were healthy enough to take a blood loss of 700 ml, equivalent to two bottles of blood. The patient recovered in due course.
