Mumbai: On September 17, as the nation draped itself in festivity to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, and wishes poured in from every corner of the world — leaders, celebrities and citizens alike — one woman took to the skies and wished the PM in her own signature style. Her tribute soared, quite literally, above them all.
Defying gravity and embracing thrill, Padma Shri Skydiver Shital Mahajan Rane (43) leapt from the skies, carrying with her not just courage but also a message of admiration. In the vast canvas of blue, her skydiving tribute painted an unforgettable spectacle — a gesture as bold, adventurous, and limitless as the journey of the man she was celebrating. Shital took the breathtaking plunge at Skydive Empuriabrava in Spain, a globally acclaimed skydiving drop zone. As she descended, she proudly unfurled an 8 ft x 6 ft flag-banner with the message: “Wishing You a Very Happy 75th Birthday, Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi Ji.”
Shital later remarked, “It is my honour to extend my heartfelt wishes to our respected Prime Minister on his 75th birthday through the skies. Skydiving has always been my way of expressing India’s spirit of courage and determination, and today, I dedicate this jump as a symbol of respect and admiration for Shri Narendra Modi Ji’s visionary leadership and his tireless service to the nation.”
This special skydiving tribute not only highlights India’s presence on the global stage of adventure sports but also reflects the spirit of “Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal”, showcasing Indian women’s strength, resilience, and achievements worldwide.
While millions sent wishes with words, she chose the winds as her messenger and the skies as her stage. As she descended gracefully, her tribute symbolised not just respect for a leader, but also the spirit of a new India that dares, dreams and breaks boundaries.
It wasn’t just a birthday wish; it was a high-flying salute — a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle to honour a once-in-a-generation leader.
Shital Mahajan is a highly skilled extreme sportsperson and skydiver, known for holding eight world records in her field. She made history as the first woman to execute an accelerated free-fall jump over Antarctica from 10,000 feet. Additionally, she is recognised as the youngest woman to jump over both the North and South Poles, and she achieved this remarkable feat without any prior trials. Her accomplishments showcase her exceptional talent and determination in the world of skydiving.
