New Delhi: The Supreme Court reaffirmed the death penalty for a man who gang-raped a minor girl "horribly" before killing her in 2010 in Coimbatore with her brother.
In a 2:1 majority decision, a bench led by Justice RF Nariman said there was no need to revise the death penalty handed down by Manoharan as he committed a serious offence. While the appeal for review was rejected by the judges Nariman and Suryakant, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, who was also part of the tri-judge bench, said that only on the point of the sentence he had a different view."In view of the majority judgment, the review petition stands dismissed in its entirety," the bench said.
