Logistics company, Ecom Express is planning to employ 30,000 people for the festive season in the next few weeks. These jobs will be temporary and new hiring will be done to meet the increased demand from e-commerce companies during festivals. A spokesperson from Ecom Express said that last year the company had hired 20,000 people before the festival season. Though these jobs were temporary, around one-third of them have become permanent as there was a rise in orders even after the festival season.

E-commerce companies anticipate business to increase during festivals and have gone for capacity increase to manage orders. Walmart-owned Flipkart recently added more than 50,000 grocery stores to strengthen the supply chain and increase delivery capacity. Amazon India announced the addition of five centers (Vishakhapatnam, Farukhnagar, Mumbai, Bangalore and Ahmedabad). It has also announced the expansion of its existing eight centers.

Saurabh Deep Singla, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer of Ecom Express told media, “The epidemic has taken the e-commerce industry to a different stage. During the festivals our e-commerce customers are making a lot of aggressive plans and we want to make sure that they can meet the demand. We have started appointments. This process will continue till October 10 and we expect to create 30,000 temporary jobs during the festivals.”
