This year marks 75 years since India and Denmark established diplomatic relations. To commemorate this historic occasion, a group of Danish Parliament deputy speakers led by Leif Lahn Jensen, Jeppe Soe, and Karina Adsbol met with Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan in Mumbai.

The Danish Parliamentary representatives said the delegation visited India to promote parliamentary cooperation, trade, business, culture and academic collaboration.

The Ambassador of Denmark in India, Freddy Svane, expressed his concern with Governor Bais about Denmark’s shortage of skilled manpower. The Ambassador appreciated the agreement with India on mobility and migration and added that the Green Strategic Partnership between the two countries was growing stronger.

The Governor welcomed the Danish Parliamentary delegation to Maharashtra and stated that Denmark was India’s trusted trading partner. He said Maersk and the Indian hi-tech manufacturing company L&T were household names within India. The Governor requested that Denmark help train India’s young people and said the country (India) would appreciate Danish support in areas such as the milk revolution, clean energy, education, and cultural exchange.

Furthermore, the Governor said that, as the Chancellor of 26 public universities, he would like to see greater cooperation between the universities in Denmark and Maharashtra.

Senior officials of Denmark’s parliament and the vice-consul of Denmark in Mumbai, Henry Karkada, were present at the meeting.
