The All Mumbai-Malayali Association (AMMA) has announced the fifth edition of ‘Marathi-Malayali Ethnic Fest 2024’ will be held from February 2-4 at the Nehru Science Centre in Worli, Mumbai.  The festival is a spectacular celebration of Kerala and Maharashtra’s rich cultural legacy that aims to promote cultural exchange between the two states.

The festival is organised with the Nehru Science Centre (National Council of Science Museums), Ministry of Culture, Government of India. Notably, the success of previous editions has made this event a fixture on Mumbai’s cultural calendar.

In 2017, the festival’s debut edition was a watershed moment, laying the groundwork for an outstanding effort in the city’s cultural scene. Indeed, the festival facilitates intercultural connection, encouraging mutual understanding and respect.

The event celebrates Kerala and Maharashtra’s vast cultural legacy, emphasising their distinct traditional art forms. This edition promises an exciting array of cultural programmes that reflect the best of both regions. Renowned artists from both states will attend, creating a melting pot of unique skills. According to Jojo Thomas, president of AMMA, this fest also motivates Malayalees and Marathis, fostering a sense of unity, national integration and strong bonds among people, transcending differences of caste, creed, region and politics.

In addition to traditional art forms, the festival has a variety of attractions, including traditional and floral rangolis and inter-school student competitions. Children’s school-level competitions include drawing and painting, quizzes, patriotic songs, koli dance, mohiniyattam, ethnic fancy dress and more. Senior artists from Kerala and Maharashtra will present traditional art forms in the evenings during the festival.

AMMA is committed to the welfare of Keralites in Mumbai, regardless of caste, creed, or religion. With nine offices in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad, AMMA’s diaspora has contributed significantly to the ethos of the financial capital for many years.

Furthermore, AMMA’s influential social activities include efforts that promote unity and understanding among varied cultures.
