To coincide with the 69th Republic Day Sri Shanmukhananda Fine arts and Sangeetha Sabha felicitated 17 members of the Sabha who have completed 90 years of age and above at a function held. Of these eight were couples and nine singles.
The Sabha also be felicitated maestros of music who have also crossed the age of 90. They include Padma Vibhushans Pandit Ramnarayan, Pandit Arvind Parikh, Mridangam exponent Dr T. K. Murthy and K.R. Chandramouli.
The felicitation was preceded by various havans performed for the welfare of the nonagenarians and healthy life for them. The Ayushya Homam for longevity, Maha Mrityunjaya Homam for immortality and Sudarshana Homam forwarding of all evils were performed along with Vishwa Shanti Homam.
There was also a recitation of Chatur Veda parayanam by 90 Vidyarthis to mark the centenary of its past president Dr V.Subramanian with cake cuttings by 100 students from orphanage and children's’ home in Matunga.
Dr V.Shankar, president of the Sabha in his welcome address said this function has been arranged to felicitate our own members who have been with the sabha for several years and had contributed for its growth. This is the only way we could honour them.
