The department of English, SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce had organised a one day national seminar on poetry as an art form by taking a close look at urban verse and its practitioners in India. The seminar was the first of its kind to be organised by a City college.

Poets from all over the country including Menka Shivdasani (Co-founders of the iconic Poetry Circle in Mumbai), artists and poets such as Jane Bhandari and Naval Commander Paresh Tiwari, Poet, photo artist and academician from M.S. University, Baroda, Dr. Johannes Manjrekar, academician and poet Geethanjali Rajan, Ramesh Gowri Raghavan, Dr. Brijesh Raj and Sandra Martyrs were among the persons who introduced the interesting forms such as Haiku and Haibun.

 

 

“The seminar is organised to inspire budding talent and encourage creative writing as a vocation, “ said Dr. Lakshmi Muthukumar, head of the department of English. It also aims to provide a first-hand experience of writing and appreciating city poetry, shed light on avenues open to the city poets to share their work with like-minded individuals, Lakshmi said.

  1. This seminar was of immense help, as it boosted and gave a lot of information able variously ways of writing poetry. The Haiku and Haibun sessions as fun to understand and write. We learnt a lot of things from each poet present there for the seminar. The most memorable and cherished event ever to happen.
