Great Barrier Reef of Australia has once again undergone mass bleaching, making it third in five years. Rising sea temperatures is believed to be the cause for huge coral loss in the world’s largest reef system. The reef had also suffered extensive damages under similar instances in 2016 and 2017. Areas that were untouched then have suffered moderate or severe bleaching.
The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is conducting an aerial survey of the giant organism. The reef system is recognized for its scientific importance and is a world heritage site.
