Media Eye News Bureau: In the history of Indian army 15th January holds a special place as every year, it is celebrated as Army Day.

This day is celebrated in spirit of Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa, who took over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief on this day in 1949.

India is celebrating the 70th army day by paying homage to the fallen heroes, who sacrificed their life for protection, peace and prosperity of the country. The Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had addressed the army to extend their greetings and paid homage to the valiant heroes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, India Gate, New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared his thoughts via Twitter. “On Army Day, I convey greetings to the soldiers, veterans and their families. Every citizen of India has unwavering trust and pride in our Army, which protects the nation and is also in the forefront of humanitarian efforts during times of natural disasters and other accidents.”

From the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a Twitter message was released on behalf of the President of India.

“On Army Day, greetings to the valiant men and women of the Indian Army, to veterans and to families of those who have worn the uniform. You are our nation’s pride, the sentinels of our liberty. Citizens sleep securely knowing you are ever awake and ever vigilant.”

India is always indebted to the armed forces, for their invaluable services and sacrifices they have done for their country.
