New Delhi: Union home minister Amit Shah has told Meghalaya's reservations about the newly passed law on citizenship will be resolved, state chief minister Conrad Sangma said. Meghalaya is one of the northeastern states which experienced massive legal protests. There were fears that law enforcement-intended to promote citizenship for non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh-would dilute the state's tribal demographics. After widespread protests and violence in Shillong and other areas of the state capital, parts of the state have been under curfew for much of the week. "I asked Sangma-ji to come to me when he is free after Christmas and we can think constructively for a solution for Meghalaya. There is nothing to fear," he said in an election rally at Jharkhand.
