ME NEWS BUREAU: Time for a little break on talks whether hugging is a serious crime in Kerala as the management of a school, which had suspended a class 12 boy  for hugging a junior girl student, has decided to revoke the disciplinary action against him.

The boy, who already completed the internal exams, will now be able to appear for the upcoming board examination, while the girl student could also continue in the same school.

The St Thomas Central School at Mukkolakkal in Thiruvananthapuram felt the heat after it took disciplinary action against the students who were found hugging each other in the school campus. The incident occurred when the boy had hugged the 11th standard girl student after her performance in a music competition.

The School Principal Sebastian T Joseph said that the issue was resolved and the boy who already wrote the internal exam will be allowed to appear for the coming examinations.

" There is no problem whatsoever. We are for the welfare of children," the principal said.

Meanwhile many people, including Congress MP Tharoor, started enquiring about the incident that happened in the school on July 21, 2017, which came to the media glare nearly five months after the incident.

Tharoor had held a meeting with representatives of the church-run school management and the parents few days ago to find out a way to settle the matter.

The meeting arrived at a general consensus to resolve the issue.

"I applaud all involved for having approached the issue in a constructive spirit. This has to be win-win: the school must win back its reputation and the kids their academic careers," Tharoor said.
