New Delhi: On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the party on the outcome of the elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, saying these days that having consecutive terms in power in a state is no mean achievement for a government. The BJP will come back in power in Maharashtra and in Haryana, it has emerged as the single largest party."These are unprecedented victories because normally few governments return after five years these days. It's a big deal in such times to be elected again," PM Modi told party workers, attributing the victory to the hard work of chief ministers Devendra Fadnavis and ML Khattar.

The teams formed after the victory in the 2014 elections are relatively new in both Maharashtra and Haryana, the prime minister said. High praise was given to the BJP party in Haryana in this context. "People who know Haryana politics should know if we had to form an alliance with a party in the state, we had to fight on their chosen seats. That was a pre-2014 condition. Likewise in Maharashtra, the party had been Shiv Sena's junior partner until the sweeping win in the general elections of 2014, he said.
